Important Information
The Montserrat mountain hides more than 100 caves inside, but the one we call The Caves of Montserrat (also known as the Salnitre Caves), is in Collbató, and is the only one that allows a 400-meter-long underground walkway conditioned for the tourist.
What should we know before coming to the caves?
Important Notice about Access to the Caves
The only access to the Caves is from the Salut car park, located approximately 25 minutes walking from the caves. Please take the walking time into account to arrive on time for your visit.
To avoid parking difficulties, we recommend parking in the village of Collbató and walking to the Caves (a 40-minute walk).
- The visits at 10:00, 11:30 and 2:30 pm are in Catalan. The visit at 1:00 pm can be in Spanish on request.
- From Tuesday to Friday there are visits for schoolchildren, except during the months of July and August when visits are made to the public, as well as every Saturday and Sunday of the year.
- We will have to walk a lot, go up and down steps.
- Access to the caves is done by climbing 244 stairs, about ten minutes from the last car park.
- The access of dogs is prohibited, except guide dogs.
- On busiest days the car parks may be full. Do not park in prohibited areas. In the town you will find free parking and you can walk to the caves, but you will need enough time.
- Inside we will do a total linear route of about 800 meters and 500 stairs. The cumulative difference between going and coming back is 64 m, which goes through the 500 stairs that are inside the cave.
- Throughout the year the temperature inside the cave is 14 degrees and the relative humidity is 99%. Therefore, the floor and railings may be wet.
- It is mandatory to wear sports shoes and a piece of long-sleeved clothing, even in summer. Guides may refuse entry to visitors if they consider that their footwear could put their safety at risk inside the cave (flip-flops, thin fabric or canvas shoes, sandals or open shoes, high heels, or dress shoes).
- There is a water fountain in the picnic area of La Salut, but we recommend bringing some water to stay hydrated.
- Before buying the tickets, read the privacy policy and the conditions of use.
- Remember that we are inside the Natural Park of Montserrat, and you must comply with the regulations.
